CNN senior correspondent Edward Isaac Doveer said Thursday on CNN's “Inside Politics” that President Joe Biden will be remembered for the man he was during President Donald Trump's discontinuous presidential terms.
Dobia said: “What he had was a legacy. I think you're right. His first few years in office were historic. On the domestic front, it was more than anyone who goes back to the days of Lyndon Johnson can praise. A lot of legislation has been enacted. What you've seen is a slow retreat from Joe Biden here. Here's a West Wing quote: In the West Wing, John Spencer, who plays White House Chief of Staff Leo McGarry, says, “We're trying to rally the troops.” There are moments when you say, “We can do more, we can make more difference in one day.” Than going to this building in our lifetime after we leave that building. That's certainly not the approach Joe Biden has taken, at least not publicly since the election, and even since he ceded the nomination to Kamala Harris. But there are things he can do through executive authority. Many of the things he plans to do will likely be Donald Trump's first target. ”
He added, “I think it's really hard for Joe Biden to know that he rejected Donald Trump and came into office, and that he's going to replace Donald Trump here.” Ta. If you think back to the interview I did with Joe Biden for the book I wrote, he had been president for about three weeks. Of the lessons I learned in that he's trying to assert himself as not just Barack Obama's vice president, not just the guy who beat Donald Trump, but the guy who was elected president, Joe Biden. Part of it. But now it's a part of him. And it may define who he is in the weeks before the election. I've had conversations with White House officials who say that if Harris loses most of her position, Biden will be remembered, at least in the short term, as the person in the middle of Trump's term. ”
“At this point, that's what he's doing,” Dobia concluded.
