A sailor and his dog were rescued after strong winds and high waves caused a ship to run aground off northwest Washington on Christmas morning.
The Jefferson County Sheriff's Office said it received a report of a sailor in distress between the Port Townsend Harbor and the Port Townsend Paper Mill around 6:50 a.m. Wednesday.
Officials said the man struggled to control the boat in strong winds and the boat eventually ran aground near the Larry Scott Trail.
Due to high wave conditions, he and the pup were unable to leave the yacht.
U.S. Coast Guard swim rescue personnel arrived and were able to rescue the two men and bring them to shore.
No injuries were reported.

The National Weather Service predicted wind gusts of up to 50 mph on Christmas Day.
Wind gusts of up to 60 mph were reported in the nearby town of Oak Harbor.
