Bears want to meet with Pete Carroll, but he’s keeping his options open

Following reports that Pete Carroll is interested in the Bears' coaching position, Chicago has made it clear that they are open to meeting with Pete Carroll for the position.

But Carroll, 73, is keeping his NFL options open.

On Wednesday, ESPN reported that Carroll has expressed interest in the Bears' head coaching job after the team fired Matt Eberflus after Thanksgiving.

Sports Illustrated's Albert Breer confirmed that he reported the incident in a segment on Prime Video's pregame show, Thursday Night Football, but noted that Carroll was forced to tell other teams on the sideline. He suggested that he was telling them that he was ready to return.

“Pete Carroll is interested in the Bears job, but that's not the only thing he's looking at,” Bouyer told Carissa Thompson before Thursday night's game between the Seahawks and the Bears. “I'm hearing that he's told every team that has an opening that he wants to return to coach in 2025. Plus, Charissa, I'm hearing that the Bears are interested in sitting down and talking with Carroll about the opening.” . ”

After Lovie Smith's eight-year tenure with the Bears (2004-2012), Chicago has struggled to stop the coaching merry-go-round.

Eberflus was unable to bring the Bears back to prominence, as his team mismanaged the clock in the final seconds of the fourth quarter against the Lions in a memorable Thanksgiving game, resulting in a 14-32 loss.

Carroll could be an interesting candidate for the role after taking over as Seahawks coach earlier this year.

Over 14 seasons in Seattle, Carroll went 137-89-1 and was a consistent winner, winning a Super Bowl in 2014 and an NFC title the following season.

If Carroll, who previously coached at USC, lands in Chicago, he will team up with fellow Trojan quarterback Caleb Williams.
