Jets’ Davante Adams ‘optimistic’ about playing in Week 17

Despite making a surprise appearance on the Jets' injured list this week, Davante Adams said he is “optimistic” to play in Buffalo on Sunday.

The Jets' top receiver is listed as questionable, having missed two consecutive games this week with a hip injury.

Adams said he hurt himself early in the 19-9 loss to the Rams, but managed to keep playing.

During Friday's practice, the six-time Pro Bowler didn't seem to have any trouble running in position drills.

“We're still working on this issue,” Adams said. “I'm trying to get treatment and hopefully be ready in time for the game.

“I finished my first competitive period [of practice] I didn't expect to be able to do this much when I participated, so I did it just to get a feel for it. And I felt so much better. Well, I wanted to have some routes first and then go out there and be a little competitive, but not too much. Make sure you stay cool and comfortable until game day. ”

Adams, 32, has been on a roll lately, having a nearly 200-yard game and two touchdowns against the Jaguars in Week 15 and a 109-yard game and one touchdown last week against the Dolphins.

If he plays against the Bills, he will have a chance to catch Aaron Rodgers' 500th career touchdown pass, further deepening his bond with the quarterback who spent eight seasons in Green Bay.

“I mean, obviously, I love it. I got 200 points, I got 400 points, so if I could get five, that would be great,” he said. “I think his 200th was a first for me. I mean, we had a special connection in the past. It's great and it's obviously a big, big, big thing for him. We don't need accolades or milestones, but we should keep accumulating them while we can.”

Adams is 70 yards away from having his fifth consecutive season with at least 1,000 yards receiving.

He said it was “very disappointing” not to reach the goal.

Interim head coach Jeff Ulbrich said Friday that Greg Zuerlein will be kicking for the Jets on Sunday.

The 13-year veteran, who landed on IR in October due to a left knee injury, was kicking a field goal after Friday's practice.

The Tour line has struggled this season, making just 9 of 15 field goal attempts, but Ulbrich said injuries are not part of the problem.

“There have been cases of underachievement of talent and it wasn't good enough. I know he would say he wasn't performing well enough and was never up to his standards. '' Ulbrich said. “It’s a great opportunity for him to come back in the last two games and do his job to his standard.”

DL Leki Fotu (knee) played limited Friday but was listed as unavailable Sunday.

Safety Tony Adams (ankle), CB Michael Carter II (back), CB Sauce Gardner (hamstring), DL Brayden McGregor (ankle), OL Morgan Moses (knee), DL Haason Reddick (neck), DL Quinnen Williams (hamstring) is all listed as questionable.
