AmericaFest's Straw Poll reveals that a majority of Americans believe that Rep. Mike Johnson (R-Louisiana) should not remain speaker of the House.
Charlie Kirk, Founder and CEO of Turning Point USA, posted the results of a straw poll conducted at the convention held December 19-22, 2024 at the Phoenix Convention Center.
The poll found that only 22% of people supported Mr Johnson. Johnson has recently come under fire for failing to negotiate a sound spending deal on behalf of the Republican Party. A majority, 62 percent, disapproved of his performance as Speaker of the House.
The straw poll also asked participants, “Do you think Mike Johnson should remain Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives?”
A majority (58.8%) said he should not remain speaker of the House, while just 13.7% said he should remain speaker. More than a quarter, 27.5%, remain unknown.
This is in line with the Rasmussen Report poll, which found that only 38% of people view Mr Johnson at least somewhat favorably, down from 44% who viewed him favorably in April. I am doing it.
Breitbart News details:
Of that 38 percent, only 14 percent have a “very” positive impression. A further 36% have at least a somewhat unfavorable view of Johnson. Of those, 19% view him “very” unfavorably. A further 27% are still unsure.

When asked whether Johnson is better or worse than the last speaker of the House of Representatives (the last being Kevin McCarthy), 41% of respondents said he was “about the same,” while 24% said he was worse than Johnson.20 % said it was excellent. A plurality of Democrats, Republicans and independents believe Johnson is “about the same,” but an additional 33% of Democrats say Johnson is worse. 26% of independents and 13% of Republicans agree.
Johnson's chairmanship is in a delicate situation after initially negotiating a disastrous 1,537-page continuing resolution (CR) full of pork that included pay increases for MPs.
The spending deal infuriated many conservatives in both chambers of Congress, but the final deal was still seen as a gift to Democrats, as none of their members opposed it.
“I'm voting for anyone but Mike Johnson,” Rep. Thomas Massie (R-Ky.) reiterated this week.
The lawmaker continued, “The argument that “Hurry up and elect him so we can certify the election in J6'' is unconvincing,'' adding, “Weak legislatures benefiting from the swamp.'' “We will not be able to achieve this goal,” he added. The mission voters gave President Trump and Congress in November:
Other members have also hinted that they may be prepared to support someone else on January 3rd.
