The grand prize in Friday's drawing was the fifth-largest prize in the game's history.
In addition to the jackpot, four players won $1 million by matching all five white balls: two in California and one each in Arizona, Missouri, and Texas.

The estimated $1.22 billion grand prize comes with a one-time cash payment option of $549.7 million.
Winners typically choose their prize rather than an annuity, which is paid out as one immediate payment followed by 29 annual payments.
The odds of winning the grand prize are 1 in 302,575,350.

Before Friday's drawing, the last time the Mega Millions jackpot was won was on September 10, when a Texas player matched all six numbers to win the game's eighth-largest jackpot in history. He won a prize of $100 million.
On August 8, 2023, a record Mega Millions jackpot of $1.6 billion was won in Florida. The prize is the world's third-largest lottery prize ever won on a single ticket, behind the two winning Powerball tickets of $2.04 billion and $1.765 billion. They won in California in 2022 and 2023, respectively.

The next drawing will take place on Tuesday, when players will try to win an estimated $20 million prize. The prize comes with a $9 million cash option.
Mega Millions is played in 45 states, as well as Washington, DC, and the US Virgin Islands. The deadline is buy tickets Tuesday and Friday drawing nights at 9:45 p.m.
