On this week's Fox News Sunday broadcast, Sen. Eric Schmidt (R-Missouri) said the H-1B program is “leaving American workers behind.”
“First of all, this is an important discussion to have, and I think it's important to recognize that it's happening right now in X,” Schmidt said.
He added: “I think this is an important and thoughtful discussion being had, but I think what we need to keep in mind here is that American workers are being left out of this economy. Many factory jobs are being moved overseas. I think the abuse of the H-1B program is clear: the sons and daughters of factory workers are losing their jobs and taking white-collar jobs as accountants, and they are being replaced by foreign workers who are being downsized. So I think the solution that President Trump articulated in 2020 is to reform that system.”
Schmidt continued, “I think the top priority for the Trump administration will be deportations starting on day one, and the executive orders that are coming out.I believe President Trump was talking about reforming this system, the H-1B system.'' But the broader issue here is mass immigration, which is lowering jobs, lowering wages, and increasing housing costs.
