Netanyahu completes prostate surgery

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu underwent successful surgery to remove his prostate on Sunday, officials announced.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, 75, has had a series of health problems in recent years.

Ofer Grofit, Netanyahu's personal physician and head of the urology department at Jerusalem's Hadassah Medical Center, said in a video statement that Netanyahu's surgery went well and there was “no fear” of cancer or malignancy. Associated Press reported.

Justice Minister Yariv Levin, a close ally of Prime Minister Netanyahu, served as acting prime minister during the operation.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's health has become an international concern as the war with Hamas continues in Gaza and his trial on corruption charges continues.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's office said in a statement that the surgery was successful and there were no complications.

His office said he was awake and “fully alert” and was taken to an underground unit in case of a missile attack, according to the Associated Press.

Prime Minister Netanyahu was expected to remain in the hospital for several days for observation.

The surgery comes as Netanyahu's office seeks to boost his international profile after he has suffered several setbacks in recent years.

In a video posted in July 2023, Prime Minister Netanyahu told the world that he was feeling “very well” but that doctors had recommended that he be fitted with an emergency pacemaker.

The Associated Press contributed.
