Texas’ Arch Manning shoots down transfer rumors ahead of CFP game

Texas Longhorns quarterback Arch Manning announced Monday that he plans to enter the transfer portal at the end of the season as the team prepares for its next College Football Playoff game against Arizona State. He denied rumors that he had done so.

Rumors swirled all season that Manning would be a backup to Quinn Ewers. When Ewers went down with an injury, Manning stepped up and the offense showed no signs of opening up. He has 939 passing yards and nine touchdowns.

“I mean, I have no plans to go into the portal or anything,” the redshirt freshman said. Via Rivals. “So I don’t know much about windows and all that stuff.”

He admitted it was an adjustment to being a backup quarterback after being a famous high school quarterback whose family includes one of the most famous football players of all time.

“It's definitely an adjustment,” Manning said. “I don't want anyone to not play. But like I said, whether I play or not, I'll do whatever I can to help the team win, and that's what I'll do.”

He credits Ewers with helping him learn the ropes of being a college football player.

Ewers expressed a similar opinion.

“We have a good relationship, so it certainly lends itself to that kind of relationship,” Ewers said.

Manning could definitely be the starting QB in 2025, unless Ewers decides to stay in school for another year before turning pro.
