Wizards rookie guard Carlton “Bub” Carrington hit his head on the floor during the third quarter of Washington's game against the Knicks on Monday, sending him off the court in a wheelchair.
Carrington was defending Knicks winger OG Anunoby as he drove to the basket. At one point during that sequence, Carrington fell backwards and hit his head on the court at Capital One Arena.
Wizards medical staff helped lift Carrington into a wheelchair and placed two towels over his head as they headed to the locker room.
He was ultimately sidelined due to post-traumatic headaches, but was seen talking with teammates and walking around the locker room after the Knicks beat Washington 126-106 on Monday, according to the team.
Carrington, a 2024 NBA Draft first-round pick of the Wizards coming off his only collegiate season in Pittsburgh, went 6-for-6 on shots in Washington's second home loss to the Knicks in three days. He finished with 6 points with two successful hits. He had five rebounds, five assists and added one steal on defense in 28 minutes.
He started 20 of 29 games in his rookie season for rebuilding Washington and will likely finish the year as one of next year's top draft picks.
Carrington entered Monday averaging 9.1 points, 4.3 rebounds and 3.8 assists per game.
The Wizards kept the game close against the Knicks in the first half, but thanks to Josh Hart's triple-double and Karl-Anthony Towns' 32-point performance, the Knicks won eight straight games in the end, 12-2, entering the December game. Finished.
Washington, which currently sits in last place in the Eastern Conference at 5-25, will wait for further updates on Carrington until it faces the Bulls on January 1st.
