A small plane crashed onto the roof of a commercial building in Southern California on Thursday, killing two people and injuring 18 others, authorities said.
Fullerton Police Department spokeswoman Christy Wells said in a statement to The Hill that 10 of the injured were taken to nearby hospitals, and the remaining eight were treated and released at the scene. . Two people have been confirmed to have died, but it is unclear whether they died on the ground or in the plane.
The plane crashed less than two minutes after takeoff from Fullerton Municipal Airport, according to flight tracking website FlightAware.com.
Wells said both local police and firefighters responded to the crash in the 2300 block of Raymer Avenue at 2:09 p.m. “Due to a fire outbreak, two individuals immediately began evacuating surrounding stores,” she said in a statement.
The fire was later extinguished.
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) said in a statement that a single-engine RV-10 van crashed in Fullerton, California, and that the federal agency will work with the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) to investigate the accident. . The FAA said the NTSB will handle the investigation.
The building where the plane crashed was home to home goods store Michael Nicholas Designs, The Associated Press reported.
