Britt Allcroft, the woman behind the popular children's TV show Thomas the Tank Engine and Friendspassed away on December 27th at the age of 81.
Allcroft founded the Britt Allcroft Company with her television producer husband Angus Wright, and went on to secure the rights to Reverend W. Audley's railway series featuring Thomas the Tank Engine. In 1984, Allcroft released the first 26 episodes of the show, which inspired decades of follow-ups and millions of fans. newsweek Reported.
The character of Thomas quickly became a favorite of children around the world and was such a success that the series reinvented children's programming.

The Thomas the Tank Engine character crossed the Atlantic to America in 1989 when Allcroft and American producer Rick Siggelkow created a television series. Shining time stationbrought the world of Thomas and his railroad companions to millions of American children. Thomas also became a big hit in the United States before spreading to Japan and many other countries.
The show was extremely popular and aired for 24 years and 584 episodes from 1984 to 2021.
Born on December 14, 1943, Allcroft appeared on the children's quiz show “ Get it got it good, and went on to produce several other children's programs in the UK. She also produced shows such as: Moon Crew Game, Dance Crazymemorabilia, and mother by daughter For BBC Channel 4.
Allcroft divorced her producing partner and husband Angus Wright in 1997, and Angus Wright predeceased her in 2012. Wright and Allcroft are survived by two children.
