Brian Sicknick’s Brother Demands Congress Block Trump on January 6

Craig Sicknick, brother of late Capitol Police officer Brian Sicknick, said Saturday at a rally at the Lincoln Memorial that Congress should block the certification of President-elect Donald Trump when it convenes on January 6. That's what he said.

Congress is scheduled to meet on Monday, January 6, to certify the results of the electoral votes, in accordance with the U.S. Constitution. In 2020, a mob stormed the Capitol with many believing that several states' electoral votes were fraudulent and that Democrats were stealing the election. Officer Sicknick was involved in a confrontation with a violent mob on January 6, but died of “natural” medical causes after suffering a stroke the day after the riot.

Ironically, Mr. Sicknick's brother is making even more extreme demands than the mob's demands four years ago. This time, it would invoke Section 3 of the 14th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution to prevent Congress from taking office as the next president.

Left-wing Democrats used the 14th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution, which prohibits those who took part in the “insurrection,” meaning those who at the time betrayed the Union and joined the Confederacy, to remove Trump from office. I insisted that I could. The Supreme Court rejected Colorado's attempt to remove Trump from the vote on this basis, but some Democrats continued to argue that Congress has the power to do what states cannot.

Rep. Jamie Raskin suggested last February that Congress might try to disqualify Trump from office based on the scenario outlined by Sicknick, but Republican majorities in both chambers have not It did not explain how it would do so.

At Saturday's rally, Mr. Sicknick said that Mr. Trump must be prevented from regaining power, telling a relatively small crowd that he would “have peace with the worst person to hold office in the history of our country.” “Keep fighting,” he urged.
