Stephen A. Smith had something to say about Tyreek Hill's announcement that he wanted to leave Miami, and he didn't hold back.
After the Dolphins lost to the Jets at the end of the season, Hill surprisingly told reporters, “I'm quitting.”
The Dolphins missed the postseason to cap a downturn for their star wide receiver, which kept him from reaching the 1,000-yard receiving mark for the first time in five years and his first per-game mark since his rookie year in 2016. The yardage is the lowest. .
But Mr Smith had a harsh reaction to Mr Hill's comments.
“It's outrageous,” Smith said on ESPN's “First Take” on Monday. “Please stay there.”
Smith continued to tear apart Hill.
“Life is a little different without Patrick Mahomes around,” Smith continued. “We tried to tell you, we don't want to hear that you don't have a family right now. You took the bag. It's not a family, brother. A family is a bag. When you take a bag, your family takes care of it. This is about realizing that life is a little different when Patrick Mahomes isn't throwing the football for you.
Hill was unable to agree to a contract extension with Kansas City and was traded from the Chiefs to the Dolphins in 2022.
“This is the first time I've missed the playoffs, so I had to do what was best for me and my family,” Hill said Sunday. “Whether it's here or wherever it is, I'm going to open that door myself. I'm opening the door. I'm out, brother. It was great to play here, but at the end of the day, I have to do what's best for my career because I'm too much of a competitor to just be there.”
He also appeared to post a farewell message to Dolphins fans on social media.

Dolphins coach Mike McDaniel seemed to imply that Hill quit the team when he didn't play in the fourth quarter of the loss to the Jets, but the two sides have very different stories about the situation.
Hill said he was unavailable because he had a minor issue with his wrist, but McDaniel said he was “not informed it was a new injury.”
