17-year-old opens fire while attempting carjacking, cops say. But victim also has a gun — and teaches suspect painful lesson.

A 17-year-old boy was shot during an attempted car robbery in Raleigh, North Carolina, Sunday night, police said. told WNCN TV.

But some important things didn't go the young suspect's way.

“So, will you all take a look? Here's a free notice to all would-be carjackers: …Please do not attempt a carjacking in North Carolina. We are an armed society, and we are I will protect you.”

First of all, this kid apparently doesn't have a very good shot. Police said the male victim was not injured.

Second, the victim had his own gun. Police told WNCN that a man fired at the boy, wounding him.

Police told the station the shooting was reported at the Red Roof Inn on Arrow Road just after 8:50 p.m.

Police told WNCN that the victim's car was in the Red Roof Inn parking lot and that a 17-year-old male attempted to carjack the man's sedan and fired at least one shot during the incident.

However, police added that the armed victim opened fire, striking the teenage suspect.

Police told WNCN the boy was taken to a hospital for treatment, but his injuries do not appear to be life-threatening.
