Why Aaron Rodgers could leave Jets for Steelers

Aaron Rodgers. Pittsburgh Steelers. They'll call it “Enigma: Encore.”

It seems a long way off for the 41-year-old quarterback to return to the Jets next year. And the black and gold just might be a future Hall of Famer.

“I think we've seen Russell Wilson hit a wall. [head coach] Mike Tomlin thinks about it too…” NFL Insider peter king said during a recent episode Podcast “Let's Go”.

“If I were the Pittsburgh Steelers, I know we have Cam Heyward and TJ Watt, and we have some expired players on defense, but they don't have a long shelf life, so they can come in and score. You're going to try to get a quarterback.'' “I can compete with Baltimore and Cincinnati in 2025. And that guy for me is Aaron Rodgers.''

New York football fans can attest that crazier things have happened.

And considering Russell Wilson's spectacular implosion in the final weeks of the regular season, it's not that hard to imagine Rodgers going to the Steelers.

Pittsburgh took off in 2024, winning 10 of the first 13 championships, and the Steel City briefly harbored “Super Bowl dreams.”

But that moment is long gone, and the Steelers' awakening has been a rude one. Tomlin's team hasn't won since Week 14 and now faces Lamar Jackson and a Baltimore Ravens team that has only lost twice since the calendar turned to November.

If the Steelers lose their next game, Saturday's wild-card game, Wilson's experiment could be all but over.

So could Justin Fields be the answer under center?

The 25-year-old signal-caller led the Steelers to a 4-2 start before Wilson regained the starting spot, even if he stacked him on top of Fields' shoulders and draped an oversized jersey over him. But that won't happen with this duo. Hold a candle to Aaron Rodgers. At least that's the version Packers fans know.

Rodgers' reputation precedes him. Super Bowl Champion, 10-time Pro Bowler, 4-time MVP, recent inductee into the 500 Touchdown Club, and the list goes on.

He is under contract with the Jets through 2025, but that contract has become less important these days.

And it's no secret that he admires Mike Tomlin.

Something even crazier happened.
