President Joe Biden's attempt to rewrite Title IX to include gender identity was formally blocked by a federal court Thursday.
Rewriting the rules would allow biological males to compete in women's sports and use women-only spaces. Challengers to the rule welcomed the court's decision, with Tennessee Attorney General Jonathan Scumetti declaring it a “huge victory.”
“It is abundantly clear that discrimination on the basis of sex means discrimination on the basis of being male or female…By expanding the meaning of ‘based on sex’ to include ‘gender identity,’ the title IX is overturned,” Chief Justice Danny C. Reeves, a George W. Bush appointee, wrote in the District of Kentucky. court decision.

Biden first proposed the rewrite in a January 2021 executive order, then released The final rule was submitted in April, but quickly faced legal challenges. The Biden administration announced in December that it would no longer pursue efforts to rewrite the rules after several legal challenges prevented them from taking effect before Biden left office.
The White House and Department of Education did not immediately respond to Daily Caller News Foundation's requests for comment.
