Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass braced herself when reporters grilled her about the city's preparedness for the devastating wildfires that occurred while she was in Ghana.
When asked by a CBS News reporter about the “lack of preparedness and quick response” he witnessed at the scene, Bass said his priority was saving lives and protecting residents' property.
“Rest assured, once it's done, once we're safe, lives are saved, homes are saved, we'll look at what worked and what didn't work and fix it or take responsibility.” We will make sure to evaluate all organizations, departments, individuals, etc.,” Basu said. “But my focus now is on life and home.

When asked if he was frustrated by the lack of water at the fire hydrants, Bass jokingly replied, “Of course.”
“We also know that fire hydrants are not designed to deal with this type of large-scale destruction, and the biggest issue on Wednesday in particular was the fact that we were unable to provide air support due to the winds.” she defended. “I'm not sure if it's accurate to say we didn't have the resources, but rest assured we'll follow up as soon as we're done here.”
