A raging wildfire in the Los Angeles area has killed at least five people and destroyed thousands of structures, officials said. Flames quickly engulfed homes and businesses as residents evacuated the smoky canyon and picturesque neighborhood home to many famous people.
Many of Tuesday's towering fires were fanned by powerful Santa Ana winds that gusted more than 70 miles per hour in some places. The winds eased Thursday, but the National Weather Service warned that the fires could spread quickly even after the gusts eased.
More than 1,900 structures were destroyed, and the number is expected to rise. More than 130,000 people are also under evacuation orders in the metropolitan area, from the Pacific Interior to Pasadena, but that number continues to change as new fires break out.
