Texas’ Quinn Ewers says he’s focused on College Football Playoff semifinal, not personal future

Junior quarterback Quinn Ewers will play in the Texas Longhorns' game on Jan. 10 when they face the Ohio State Buckeyes in the College Football Playoff semifinals.

Entering this season, Ewers was widely projected to be a first-round pick in the 2025 NFL Draft.

Ewers has not yet announced whether he will return to college football or enter the draft, as the Longhorns' pursuit of a national championship remains alive.

Before last week's Peach Bowl quarterfinal game between Texas and Arizona State, multiple reports surfaced that Ewers had received offers of up to $6 million to enter the transfer portal.

Ewers has one year of college eligibility left, which opens up the possibility of transferring. Ewers' departure, whether it involves a jump to the NFL or another college program, will likely thrust the highly touted Arch Manning into the Longhorns' starting QB role.

On Wednesday, Ewers answered questions about his football future.

“Right now, I'm not worried about any of that,” he replied.

Afterwards, Ewers made it clear he was focused on a high-stakes game against the Buckeyes.

“People can say all they want to say,” he said. “At the moment, we're focused on Friday.”

“First of all, I think you're doing a disservice to your teammates by thinking about what's next,” Ewers added, adding that given Texas is in the midst of a disaster, it's a disservice to his teammates. He said it would be “selfish” to prioritize the future of the United States. Advance to the playoffs.

“What's in front of us isn't finished yet. Another thing God has helped me a lot is to just be present in every moment I'm in and not look too far ahead. Again, that's too selfish a thought for me to even think about what's next. ”

Miami's Cam Ward and Colorado's Shedule Sanders are being touted as the top two QBs entering April's NFL Draft. If Ewers chooses to go pro, he could attract interest from multiple teams looking to acquire the talented young signal-caller.
