Jim Banks Slams Democrats Trying to Delay Confirmation of Pete Hegseth

Sen. Jim Banks (R-Ind.) on Thursday accused Democrats of trying to delay Defense Secretary nominee Pete Hegseth's confirmation hearing scheduled for Tuesday.

Banks wrote in a letter Wednesday to Senate Armed Services Committee Chairman Roger Wicker (R-Mich.), who is responsible for scheduling the hearing.

As you know, senators who intend to oppose Mr. Hegseth's nomination at all costs are attempting to delay and deny President Trump's early confirmation as Secretary of Defense. If successful, they would undermine U.S. national security during a critical transition of power later this month.

Banks also mentioned a letter Sen. Richard Blumenthal (D-Conn.) sent earlier Wednesday asking for the hearing to be postponed.

The Armed Services Committee's important work of approving nominations sent to the Senate by the President of the United States has been disrupted by an anonymous report stating false accusations and claims for fraudulent receipts from the nonprofit's work more than a decade ago. We can't let our sources derail us. Despite being a member of the committee, Sen. Blumenthal has said he wants to question Hegseth and is asking for a postponement of the committee hearing that would allow him to do so.

Sen. Blumenthal reserves the right to oppose Hegseth's nomination and question the nominee on the Senate floor. He has no right to delay the important work of the military committees for America's national security. Thank you for your leadership on this important issue.

Wicker's aides confirmed to Breitbart News on Thursday that the hearing is still scheduled for Tuesday, Jan. 14.

Mr. Blumenthal accused Mr. Hegseth of refusing to meet with Democrats, but sources told Fox News Digital that Mr. Hegseth had been in contact with Democrats in early to mid-December, but Democrats who agreed to meet with him were・Senator Fetterman (Democrat, Pennsylvania) was the only one. Someone Hegseth met last month.

On Tuesday, Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) also tried to block Hegseth's confirmation by sending him 70 questions and demanding answers by Friday, Jan. 10.

Democrats remain opposed to Hegseth's nomination, but Senate Majority Leader John Thune reportedly told President-elect Donald Trump that he has the votes to confirm him in the Republican-controlled Senate. There is.
