Donald Trump's inaugural committee raised more than $170 million, a new record.

The committee is expected to raise more than $200 million.

Newsmax reported:

President-elect Donald Trump has raised more than $170 million for his upcoming inauguration, thanks to tech executives and big donors eager to write big checks to help pay for the ceremony. The result was a record amount.

Private donations collected so far were confirmed by a person with direct knowledge of the fundraiser who was not authorized to speak publicly. Trump's inaugural committee expects to raise more than $200 million by the end of the effort, the person said.

President Trump's inaugural committee did not immediately respond to a message seeking comment Wednesday. The committee has not yet disclosed details on how the donations will be used.

Private donations are typically used to cover the costs associated with the swearing-in ceremony itself and events surrounding the inauguration, such as parades and glitzy inaugural balls. The money left over from the inaugural committee will be used to build a future Trump presidential library, the person said.

In 2016, Trump raised $107 million, which was also a record.

CNN reported:

Donations to President Trump's first inauguration in 2016 also set a record, bringing in nearly $107 million.
