Penn State star Abdul Carter enters NFL draft with Giants needing help

John Mara is tired of watching opposing offenses do whatever they want against the Giants' defense.

Now, his team could draft perhaps the best pass rusher in the country to solve the problem.

Abdul Carter, a first-team All-American defensive end at Penn State, has declared for the 2025 NFL Draft. According to ESPN.

“Abdul is one of the top picks in this draft and we expect him to be an All-Pro in the future,” agent Drew Rosenhaus told the publication.

Carter is one of the top prospects in the country and is ranked No. 2 in the rankings. ESPN Draft Guru Mel Kiper's 2025 Draft CommitteeAnd he should hear his name called early in the draft in April.

The Philadelphia native had 12 sacks last season and earned Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year honors in his junior season.

He recorded one sack while nursing a shoulder injury in the Nittany Lions' season-ending 27-24 College Football Playoff semifinal loss to Notre Dame on Thursday.

Carter could be the first defensive player taken in the draft, with Heisman Trophy winner and Colorado two-way standout Travis Hunter and Michigan defensive tackle Mason Graham also in the mix for that honor. It is.

Hunter is the top-ranked player on Kiper's board, with Graham ranked third.

Carter could be an interesting option for the Giants if they decide not to add a quarterback or are unable to do so.

The Giants will have to choose between Carter and Hunter, as their top two QB candidates, Shedule Sanders and Cam Ward, may be left out.

If the Giants trade a quarterback like J.J. McCarthy, doubt Justin Fields' potential turnaround, or just don't like the quarterback outlook, they tend to beef up their defense. Maybe.

Tennessee and Cleveland could each draft a defensive player with their first two picks, but both teams have a clear quarterback need.

In fact, the Giants had a productive defense last year with 45 sacks, tied for eighth in sacks, but that didn't slow opposing defenses down.

Some wonder if coordinator Shane Bowen will be a one-shot due to the Giants' matador defense, but the Post's Paul Schwartz said there's “a good chance Bowen won't be fired.” “There is,” the report said.
