President-elect Donald Trump's victory in November's election has given hope to former Brazilian leader Jair Bolsonaro, who is currently barred from running for public office until 2030 by a ruling by Brazil's High Electoral Court. .

The court's decision, known as “Trump of the Tropics,” stemmed from allegations that he abused his power and “baselessly attacked the nation's electronic voting system.”

Despite the ban, Bolsonaro and his supporters are actively seeking ways to overturn the ruling. Anticipated legal challenges and political strategy have placed high hopes on Mr. Trump. Bolsonaro also hopes to put pressure on the government of Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (Lula) to allow the next president to contest the 2026 presidential election.

Bolsonaro's son, Congressman Eduardo Bolsonaro, told Fox News Digital that “Trump's victory is not only good news for democracy in Brazil and around the world, but also good news for world peace.”

“President Lula announced his support for Kamala Harris just days before the election and suggested that the new Trump administration would be 'another form of Nazism,'” he said. But after Trump's victory, Lula congratulated the president-elect and sought to downplay his earlier comments, which were widely criticized. ”

Nevertheless, Lula's main allies, including Labor leader Gleij Hoffmann, Finance Minister Fernando Haddad, and Agriculture Minister Paulo Teixeira, have fiercely criticized the incoming Trump administration.

Bolsonaro believes that Trump's victory will put the current administration in trouble.

“Lula and his team know they cannot control Trump, so their only option is to try to crush him by further aligning themselves with China. continues, and discussions are far removed from the people's true concerns. This disconnect between people and the general public seeking solutions to issues such as health care, education, security, employment, and basic hygiene was behind the Democratic Party's defeat in the last US election. Very similar for a reason, it's almost “deja”. “V”

Lula countries and BRICS countries Although he has debated ways to counter the dollar's dominance in global financial markets, Bolsonaro has argued that such strategies are counterproductive.

“President Trump announced on social media that any country that takes this stance will be subject to a 100% tariff on exports to the United States.”Whether under the Trump or Biden administrations, such disputes will be avoided by President Jair Bolsonaro. “This never happened during his term in office,” he added. Most of these entrepreneurs maintain substantial trade ties with the United States, and although some are ideologically aligned, they often have the largest influence on socialist election campaigns. is a donor. In this field, these businessmen give priority to economic realism. ”

Bolsonaro also sees ideological alignment between Bolsonaro and Trump on free speech issues as a key factor in Bolsonaro's possible return to politics.

Bolsonaro banned from running for eight years

In March 2022, President Alexandre de Moraes of Brazil's Supreme Federal Court ordered the suspension of the Brazilian messaging app Telegram, and in 2024 ordered X to block accounts that allegedly spread false information. I ordered him to do it. Elon Musk has publicly criticized these orders as censorship. The dispute escalated after Mr. de Moraes imposed fines and threatened legal action, leading to the temporary suspension of Company X's operations in Brazil. The platform resumed service following the court order.

In a hypothetical showdown with current President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, who won 47% in the last poll conducted in May 2024, Bolsonaro was expected to receive 39% of the vote. Ta. But experts believe these numbers are hypothetical, given that Bolsonaro is not currently eligible. At the same time, Bolsonaro's popularity has risen again in recent months.

The relationship between some Republican politicians and the Lula administration is characterized by limited direct involvement, mainly due to differences in ideological positions and policy priorities. Historically, the Republican Party has maintained close ties with Brazil's right-wing leaders, especially President Bolsonaro, who shares similar conservative views.

Political analyst Sandra Bronzina told Fox News Digital, “Not too long ago, I supported Congresswoman María Elvira Salazar's decision to deny visas to members of Brazil's Supreme Court on grounds of abuse of power. “This measure was not approved, but now Republicans have approved it.” Let's not forget that Brazil's Supreme Court Minister Alexandre de Moraes went head-to-head with Elon Musk and even banned X from Brazil. It has been revealed that Elon Musk will be a member of the Trump administration. ”

Bronzina said: “The fact that Trump came back with a landslide electoral victory does not bode well for the Lula government. In a very short period of time, the Lula government's economic policies have been a disaster and the dollar has declined. Significant rise, inflation rises, national debt already 9 trillion I think all of this is having an impact on voters every day. Brazilians are missing Bolsonaro right now, just like they missed Trump in America because of his bad economic policies. And his Minister of Economy, Mr. Paulo Guedes.

Analysts say that although Bolsonaro enjoys a large support base and is actively seeking to overturn the political ban, existing legal constraints still limit his chances of being re-elected as president. I think it's unclear.
