California police arrest firebug for allegedly starting bushfire in San Bernardino

A man has been arrested on suspicion of starting a wildfire in San Bernardino, California, which spread to more than 30 acres before being extinguished Wednesday afternoon, local police said.

The fire started around 2 p.m. on Little Mountain Drive near Edge Hill Drive, sending a series of devastating and deadly infernos engulfing parts of Los Angeles and surrounding areas.

San Bernardino police said the short-lived fire caused no damage to the building and no one was injured.

The fire burned 34 acres but stopped progressing around 3:30 p.m., according to the San Bernardino County Fire Department. Said.

Police took the man into custody and charged him with two felonies, including reckless arson. Said.

The suspect has not been identified.

The arrests in San Bernardino come after Los Angeles authorities arrested four people on arson charges over the past week for trying to start new fires outside the wildfire zone.

Firefighters have battled numerous wildfires in the region, with the deadliest blaze in Los Angeles County, burning more than 37,000 acres.

The historic fire destroyed more than 10,000 homes and businesses and killed at least 25 people.
