The problem is so serious that Houston's district attorney has warned defense attorneys in more than 3,600 unsolved drug cases and given police permission to suppress drug evidence from cleared cases from before 2015. Gave.

Police officials say the problem dates back decades. Last March, New Orleans police officers discovered a drugged rodent in the evidence room at police headquarters.

“Rats are eating our marijuana,” NOPD Chief Anne Kirkpatrick said at a meeting of the city's Criminal Justice Commission at the time.
