More than 300K smoke alarms sold on HSN recalled over safety risk

More than 300,000 smoke alarms sold by HSN, formerly known as Home Shopping Network, have been recalled due to the risk of not warning homeowners of smoke conditions.

of U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission announced Thursday a recall warning for approximately 328,000 Samurai Mini smoke alarms.

The agency announced that it conducted smoke detection tests on small white and silver alarms and found some were malfunctioning.

Samurai owner Three61 said it had received eight reports of mini-alarms failing to warn owners of smoky conditions. No injuries were reported.

The affected smoke alarms are model number SM1 and were sold through HSN nationwide and on HSN.com from July 2020 to November 2024.

To register a replacement, consumers must write “recall” on their small smoke alarm with a permanent marker and submit a photo of the alarm to the recall website. Once the alarm is registered, the company will immediately ship a replacement.

The CPSC urged customers to leave recalled alarms installed until replacements arrive.

“The safety of you and your family is our top priority,” Samurai said in a statement on its website. “We strongly encourage you to participate in this recall by registering below.”

The affected alarms were sold in 1-, 2- and 3-packs and included lithium-ion batteries, stickers, screws, mounting plates and instruction manuals.
