Progresso has created a quirky soup-like confection to celebrate National Soup Month.
The soup giant will sell chicken noodle-flavored hard candies through the end of January — “soup you can suck or drink,” parent company General Mills announced in a Thursday news release.
The Soup Drops are similar to cough drops, or bouillon cubes, and are perfect for “the height of cold and flu season,” the company added.
“When you're sick, there's nothing more comforting than chicken noodle soup,” said MC Cummings, vice president of General Mills. statement.
“So we thought, why stop at Soup Bowl?”
For $2.49 (the price of a typical can of Progresso sick comfort food) + shipping, customers get 20 drops in an authentic can, and it also comes with an authentic can.
“Enjoy soup like never before,” the company says.
The candies are filled with alphabet soup with vegetables, chicken, soft egg noodles, and a touch of parsley.
This announcement left me a little confused.
One Instagram user commented on a post about the new release: “If the candy doesn't get as hot as soup, I may have to pass unfortunately.”
Others were boiling.
One person commented: “This is a really bad story.”
“Ewwwwwwwww,” said another.
The comment section was also littered with vomit emojis.
The drop sold out within an hour of its release, but will be restocked every Thursday at 9am until the end of January, while supplies last.
Some consommé lovers are already preparing for the next drop.
One person commented: “I need this in my life.”
“Please make a lot so we don't sell out!!!!!!” one person begged.
The next batch will be available at ProgressoSoupDrops.com.
