January 20ththOn Inauguration Day 2025, members of the U.S. Marine Corps Band perform in the Capitol Rotunda prior to the swearing-in of President-elect Donald Trump and new Vice President J.D. Vance.
Democratic Sen. Amy Klobuchar (D-Minn.), chair of the Congressional Joint Committee on Inaugural Ceremonies, emphasized the importance of a peaceful transfer of power in a speech at the U.S. Capitol on Monday.
“Welcome to 60”th Presidential inauguration ceremony. Today, President-elect Trump and Vice President-elect Vance will take the oath of office. And we will witness a peaceful transfer of power that is at the heart of our democracy,” Klobuchar said.
Mr. Trump greeted other family members sitting in the front row and shook Mr. Vance's hand, and the guests cheered as he entered the room. On their way to their seats, Vance each also shook hands with President Joe Biden.
Mr. Vance was the first to take the oath of office. Trump is then scheduled to take the oath of office and deliver his inaugural address.
Vance wore a navy blue Italian suit custom-designed for the inauguration by a longtime tailor in suburban Cincinnati.
A Bible that once belonged to Vance's great-grandmother was used as the official Bible that Vance chose to take his oath. The Bible is very important to Vance's family. The Bible was passed down to him by his grandmother, Bonnie Vance (whom he calls “Mamaw”), when he left for the Marine Corps Recruit Depot in South Carolina in 2003. Thomas Nelson & Sons produced the King James Version of the Bible.
The theme of the speech will be “restoring trust” in the United States, an incoming White House official told reporters.
When Mr. J.D. Vance took the oath of office, he swore a solemn oath of true faith and allegiance to the country and to uphold the Constitution. Everyone applauded and cheered, and a cameraman captured Vance and his wife smiling and thanking those nearby for the opportunity. Vance's wife, Usha, was also seen holding their daughter.
Shortly after, President Trump was sworn in. He similarly swore, raising his right hand, to protect the Constitution and America. Trump, along with his daughters Tiffany and Ivanka and son Barron, shook hands with Biden. Melania tilted her stylish black hat a little, grinned and shook her husband's hand.
The U.S. Marine Corps Band then continued singing the melody and began marching toward the front lines.
Mr. Trump stood tall and stern, but at the same time a slightly proud look appeared on his face. He nodded as the song neared its end.
The entire crowd erupted in applause.
President Trump took to the podium and welcomed the former president and other members of Congress.
President Trump declared, “America's Golden Age begins now.''
