President Trump and first lady Melania Trump entered the Commander-in-Chief Ball to thunderous applause as the inaugural event continued late Monday night.
The 54-year-old first lady dazzled the crowd as she stepped out wearing a striking black and white strapless gown, white high heels and a black choker with an elegant brooch that resembled a bouquet of flowers.
The dress was reportedly designed by couturier Hervé Pierre, who also designed Melania Trump's inaugural ball gown in 2017.
Trump, wearing a black tuxedo and bow tie, immediately began dancing with his wife at an event for military personnel.
The first couple then took some time to waltz together, joined on stage by Vice President J.D. Vance and second daughter Usha Vance, as well as members of the armed forces.
“I have never had a greater privilege in my life than to serve as commander in chief, not once but twice,” President Trump told a cheering crowd.
At the ball, a video call was held with U.S. military personnel stationed in South Korea.
As soon as the feed appeared on the screen, President Trump asked, “How is Kim Jong Un doing?”
“I had a pretty good relationship with him, but he's a tough character,” the president later added.
Before leaving the stage, Trump was handed a sword to cut Ball's giant cake, which featured his preferred design of Air Force One.
President Trump happily asked, “Does anyone want cake?”
Then, as “YMCA” played over the speakers, the president danced with his sword in hand.
The event was the first of three inaugural balls that President Trump and First Lady Melania Trump will attend tonight.
This special ball is a long-standing inauguration night tradition in Washington, capping off a long day of ceremonies and first-day presidential actions.
According to the White House Historical Society, the first inaugural ball in the United States was held in 1809 for former President James Madison and his wife Dolly.
At the Liberty Ball, President Trump's second social event of the night, the president and first lady came out and briefly danced again to Elvis Presley's “Hallelujah.”
They were later joined by several of the president's adult children and their spouses.
In a short speech at Liberty Ball, President Trump emphasized the strength of his supporters and vowed to “turn this country around.”
“We're going to rebuild this country quickly. We have unique assets,” the president declared.
“I needed three pitches because there was so much support,” he said later about the number of first pitches.
After President Trump's speech, the Village People performed “YMCA”.
The Starlight Ball will be the last event the Trumps attend on their hectic first day back at the White House.
