What already has Boomer Esiason worried about Jets’ potential Aaron Glenn hire

Boomer Esiason thinks the Jets will do the same thing and expect a different result.

The former Jets quarterback is likely to be replaced by another first-year head coach in the big leagues, as coach Gang Green tends to hire the duo of Aaron Glenn and Lance Newmark for the head coach and general manager positions, respectively. I don't like the idea of getting a chance at Apple.

“I don't know that the Jets aren't necessarily the best place for an inexperienced head coach, although I haven't necessarily seen that,” Esiason said on WFAN radio show “Boomer & Gio.”

Co-host Greg Gianotti agreed that changing direction and hiring another young defensive coach could be their undoing after firing Robert Saleh earlier in the season.

Saleh was hired without any head coaching experience, but he showed flashes of talent during his time as the 49ers' defensive coordinator.

“for [owner Woody Johnson] The idea is to repeat the same pattern and go find a first-time head coach, a coordinator, and do this all over again. Defense by the way,” Gianotti added.

“I'm not saying you can't be successful with a defensive head coach. You've seen other players succeed, but a lot of times players like Sean McDermott are basically They have an all-world quarterback to lead them. But here we go again. We could easily be wrong on this one. This seems like a really, really bad idea to me.”

The Jets have scheduled second in-person interviews with Glenn and Newmark on Tuesday, and both are expected to receive intense scrutiny from Johnson.

No other Jets have interviewed for a second time, but Glenn and Newmark are said to have a “strong relationship.”

Glenn, the Lions' defensive coordinator, led Detroit's strong unit until injuries hampered the team. Those injuries seemed to catch up with his defense in a loss to Coach in the divisional round.

The Jets' respective searches could end quickly as the pressure begins to mount and head coaching vacancies are filled.

Johnson hired No. 33, led by former general manager Mike Tannenbaum, to lead the coaching search.

Initially, they started by collecting a wide range of candidates, but it appears that they have narrowed down the candidates.

Glenn previously played cornerback for the team from 1994 to 2001 and was one of the best cornerbacks in the NFL.
