According to new york posta White House official told the outlet that the president will visit North Carolina and California on Friday.
Trump had already hinted before he took office that he wanted to visit California to assess the effects of the fires and determine what is needed to restore the region's infrastructure and rebuild faster. But politicians like Gov. Gavin Newsom (D-Calif.) have already announced their own efforts to “build back better” Los Angeles County and the surrounding region, in Newsom's own words. In other words, it is transforming the county into a new “LA 2.0.”
“We have already organized the Marshall Plan. [and] “We already have a team looking at and reimagining LA 2.0,” Newsom said this month.
Additionally, President Trump said in his inaugural address on Monday that at least 200,000 residents have suffered or are still suffering damage to their homes from September's deadly hurricane, Hurricane Helen. He also mentioned the damage in North Carolina. President Trump argued that both disasters were evidence of failures by the state's Democratic leadership. The governor of North Carolina is Josh Stein, a Democratic politician.
“Our nation has been left unable to provide basic services during an emergency. This is a huge loss for the wonderful people of North Carolina, who have been badly treated, and the devastation of the hurricanes months ago and still continue. That's what we've seen recently demonstrated by great people in other states where we live,” President Trump said in a speech. “We are seeing fires from several weeks old continue to burn tragically without any protection.”
“They are rampaging through homes and communities, and they are affecting some of the wealthiest and most powerful people in our country, some of whom are sitting here right now. There's no home anymore. It's funny. But we can't let this happen. There's nothing anyone can do about it. It's not going to change.
Trump has consistently criticized Newsom for his response to the fires, posting on Truth Social that “incompetent Poles don't know how to put out fires,'' prompting Newsom to extend a direct invitation to Trump. and urged the president to come. Investigate the damage yourself with Golden State.
“I'm going to go out there on Friday and assess the situation and get things back on track,” President Trump said at a pre-inauguration rally in Washington, D.C., on Sunday.
