A radical Episcopal bishop delivered a harsh lecture to President Donald Trump on Tuesday during a service aimed at encouraging national unity.
About halfway through the service at the Washington National Cathedral, the Right Reverend Marian Budde, Bishop of the Episcopal Church in Washington, used the end of his sermon to rebuke President Trump.
God makes humans either male or female. he makes no mistakes.
First, she argued that President Trump should have “compassion” toward Americans who identify as LGBTQ.
“Millions of people have put their trust in you. As you told your nation yesterday, you have felt the hand of loving providence. In the name of our God, I ask you to have mercy on the people of our country who are now afraid,''' Budde said. “Democrat, Republican, and independent families all have gay, lesbian, and transgender children whose lives are in danger.”
She then turned to illegal immigration using dehumanizing arguments that contradict federal law.
“These are the people who harvest crops, clean office buildings, work in poultry farms and meat processing plants, wash dishes after eating at restaurants, and work the night shift at hospitals,” Budde said. spoke. “They may not be citizens or have the proper documentation, but the vast majority of immigrants are not criminals. They pay taxes and are good neighbors.”
Budde added that President Trump appealed to “please have mercy” to those in our communities whose children fear their parents will be taken away and who are facing persecution in conflict zones and on their own land. He appealed for help to help those fleeing the United States find compassion and feel welcome here.
“Our God teaches us that we should be merciful to strangers, because we were all once strangers in this land,” she said. “May God give us the strength and courage to respect the dignity of every human being, to speak the truth to one another in love, and to walk humbly with one another and our God.”
The problem with Budde's comment is clear.
First, despite many claims to the contrary, the Bible and Christianity do not support the LGBTQ agenda.
Of course, this does not mean that people who identify as LGBTQ are not created in the image of God with the same inherent worth and dignity as all other human beings. However, God created humanity to reflect the biological sex binary of male and female (Genesis 1-2). And God's Word teaches that humans only have sex through the covenant of marriage, an ethic that Jesus and his apostles upheld (Matthew 5:27-30, 19:1-12; 1 Corinthians 5-7; Romans 1) :24; Galatians 5:19; Ephesians 4:19).
The problem with the LGBTQ agenda is not only that it promotes a type of “marriage” and sexual relationships that God has not ordained, but also that it is a core issue in who its supporters are attracted to and what types of people they want to associate with. It is to guide them to establish their own identity. have sex with
However, God desires for all humans to align their identity with the ontology of Christianity, or, as the apostle Paul puts it, to be “in Christ.”
What matters is President Trump's beliefs and declaration The fact that there are only two genders, male and female, reflects the truth of God. God makes humans either male or female. God does not make mistakes, and no one is born in the “wrong body.”
Second, God commanded Israel to be very tolerant of immigrants (e.g., Leviticus 19:33-34). This does not mean that it is not God's wisdom to have mercy and care for immigrants and the vulnerable among us. On the contrary, Christians have historically been the most tolerant of such people.
But what that means is that God gave no such command to modern nation-states like the United States. This is a wise command, but its historical context must be respected. Furthermore, the apostle Paul implores Christians to submit to the “ruling authorities” because “there is no authority except that which God has established” (Romans 13:1). In this case, the United States is a country ruled by laws, including immigration laws. Furthermore, although the majority of illegal immigrants are not violent criminals who commit further crimes after arriving in the United States, the very nature of being in the United States illegally involves crime.
Finally, Budde seems to repeatedly abuse words like “compassion” and “compassion” to justify progressive policies, using the terms as an affirmation and endorsement of liberal views on LGBTQ policy and immigration policy. is used to mean. But having compassion and compassion for others is not limited to adopting a progressive worldview. And certainly, Budde's identification of immigrants as people who simply “harvest our crops,” clean our office buildings, and wash our dishes is dehumanizing.
Trump was then asked about his thoughts on the service.
“It’s not very exciting,” he reportedly said. said. “They can do better.”
Buddhi, on the other hand, hides neither. the view she woke up to There is also no obvious disdain for President Trump. tell Amid the 2020 race riots, an ABC News reporter said, “President Trump needs to be replaced.”
