A man from Bakersfield, California, declared He was sentenced to three years in prison for charges related to a sexual relationship he had with a 14-year-old girl he met through the Roblox video game.
On June 26, the girl's relatives found Daniel Diaz, then 21, “cuddled up” with the girl in the back seat of a car at University Park in Northeast Bakersfield.
In addition to the prison sentence, he must register as a sex offender for the rest of his life.
Bakersfield Police said an investigation revealed that Diaz met the girl online and they began a sexual relationship in April 2023.
Diaz admitted to having sex with the girl, but said he did not know how old she was, police said. The suspect said he believed she was a minor because of her “small appearance.”
Police said they searched the man's home and found evidence that he had been in contact with other minors on Roblox.
he was Paid Statutory rape, as well as contacting a minor for the purpose of committing a felony, meeting a minor for lewd purposes, transmitting obscene material to entice a minor, and for lewd conduct. This also includes transporting minors under the age of 16.
Felony charges, including rape, were dropped, and Diaz pleaded no contest to having sex with a minor and having sex with a minor.
In addition to the prison sentence, he must register as a sex offender for the rest of his life.
