Mark Zuckerberg's meta hit back at leftists who claim Facebook and Instagram are forcing people to follow the accounts of Donald Trump, J.D. Vance, and first lady Melania Trump. The company says these users are confused as the official White House account transitions to the new administration.
Meta, the parent company of social media platforms Facebook, Instagram and Threads, is under fire after users reported being automatically made to follow the accounts of President Donald Trump, Vice President J.D. Vance, and First Lady Melania Trump. is brewing. their consent. Additionally, users claim that when they searched for leftist hashtags such as #Democrat and #Democrats, results were hidden with a message indicating that the content may be sensitive.
In response to these complaints, Meta Communications Director Andy Stone addressed Threads and X to address their concerns. Stone clarified that users were not forced to follow the official accounts of the president, vice president, or first lady. He explained that these accounts are controlled by the White House, and while their content changes with each administration, existing followers remain the same. Stone said the steps are the same as those used during the last presidential transition.
But many on the left remain unconvinced by Stone's explanation. They claim they suddenly found themselves following POTUS, VPOTUS, and FLOTUS accounts, even though they had never followed Biden, Trump, or any other political account before. Some users have reported difficulty unfollowing President Trump's account, and Stone said that because the White House account rotates, follow and unfollow requests will not be honored. I answered that it may take some time.
Regarding Instagram's issue with left-wing hashtags, Mehta claimed that it was due to a technical issue affecting multiple hashtags, including those associated with the Republican Party. The company said it is working quickly to resolve this issue.
Recent changes to the content users see in their feeds can be attributed to changes announced by Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg in early January. These changes include discontinuing fact-checking programs and reducing the amount of censorship on meta platforms. Zuckerberg has also drawn criticism for his appearance on the Joe Rogan podcast in which he said companies need more “masculine energy,” with left-wing lawyers criticizing Zuckerberg's “toxic masculinity.” Mehta was removed from the copyright litigation case due to “neo-Nazi insanity.'' ”
