Suspects in Border Patrol agent’s fatal shooting identified — new details suggest deeper sinister plot

A suspect in the fatal shooting of a Vermont Border Patrol agent has been identified and the FBI has one of the individuals in custody.

On Friday, the agency announced the arrest of 21-year-old Washington state resident Teresa Youngblut in connection with the Border Patrol killing. David “Chris” Malan.

“The Office District of the Vermont Attorney's Office has charged Young Brute with assault on a federal law enforcement officer.”

At approximately 3:15 p.m. Monday, 44-year-old Malan was shot and killed while conducting a traffic stop on Interstate 91 in Coventry, Vermont. Marando is a Minnesota native and U.S. Air Force veteran who served as a Border Patrol agent at Customs and Border Protection's Newport Station after transferring from Texas.

According to Marando's family, he served in the military for nine years and worked for the federal government for 15 years, including providing security for the Pentagon during the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks.

The tragic fatal shooting occurred on the same day President Donald Trump was inaugurated for his second term in office. As part of his day's actions, the president signed several executive orders aimed at cracking down on illegal immigration and addressing the national crisis.

On Monday, Border Patrol agents in three marked vehicles stopped Youngblatt, the driver of a blue Toyota Prius. Felix Bouckholdt, a German national, was a passenger in Youngblut's car.

Both Youngblut and Baukholt reportedly had firearms in their possession.

According to the Department of Homeland Security, Baukholt was in the United States illegally after overcharging his visa.

Agents at the scene said Young Brute began firing a gun at at least one Border Patrol officer while still seated in the vehicle. wptz It has been reported. Baucholt is also said to have attempted to paint his weapons.

Documents obtained by WPTZ and Fox News Digital reveal that at least one Border Patrol agent returned fire, injuring both suspects.

Baukholt died at the scene, and Youngblut and Maland were taken to North Country Hospital for treatment. Marand was pronounced dead less than an hour later. Young Blut was later transferred to Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center.

The FBI acquired two firearms, ammunition, a ballistic helmet, a night vision monocle, a tactical belt, a firing range target, a two-way radio, a cell phone, multiple laptops, and a Youngblatt journal. It's not clear how the suspect uses the gear.

WPTZ reports that the two suspects were previously observed at the Newport Walmart, where they purchased aluminum foil and used it to wrap items in the vehicle.

Law enforcement officials said the two suspects had been under surveillance since at least Jan. 14.

Employees at the Lyndonville hotel reportedly saw Young Brute and Baukholt “wearing all-black tactical-style clothing with protective equipment” while carrying firearms.

When approached by police, the two suspects stated that they were in the area to purchase property.

Court filings reveal Young Brute faces two counts of assault with a deadly weapon and an additional charge of resisting or obstructing federal law enforcement.

“The Office District of the Vermont Attorney's Office has charged Young Brute with assault on a federal law enforcement officer,” New York FBI Albany said in a statement.

“Our hearts remain with our partners in the Swanton Sector of the U.S. Border Patrol as we mourn this great loss,” the statement added.
