Security guard fatally shot inside CVS Pharmacy in Texas by suspected shoplifters

A security guard was shot and killed by a suspected shoplifter inside a CVS Pharmacy in Texas on Friday night, police said, who allegedly opened fire after the confrontation.

According to Dallas Police, shortly after 11 p.m., a security guard encountered two shoplifters inside a Dallas store near Main Street, one of whom pulled out a gun and fired a shot, and two burglary suspects fled the scene. I ran away. CBS News Texas reported.

Anthony Egenou, a married father of three, was identified as the victim by his family, the newspaper reported.

The man was pronounced dead at a local hospital shortly after the shooting, police said.

Police have not announced any arrests or the identity of the suspect.

A CVS spokesperson said the victim was employed by a third-party security company that provided additional monitoring to the retailer.

“We are cooperating with the Dallas Police Department as they investigate the incident that occurred at our Main Street store last night,” said Amy Thibault, principal director of external communications for CVS Health. he told the Dallas Morning News.

“Shops and pharmacies are open today.”

The retail giant closed until 10 a.m. Saturday and unlocked its doors to more than a dozen customers, three hours after its usual opening time, local outlets reported.

Some local residents who live nearby and shop at CVS expressed concern following the violence.

“I probably won't go to CVS by myself,” said Rebecca Montgomery, a downtown Dallas resident who has lived in an apartment next to the retailer for two years. CBS reported.

“You don't want to constantly worry that someone is going to come in and do something like that. It's kind of crazy to think that someone could come in and shoot someone.”
