The US should “don't have a federal department of education,” said Rep. Harriet Hayjan (R-WY). Breitbart News Daily.
When asked by host Mike Slater how Congress could cut spending on settlements, Hageman, who defeated former Liz Cheney (R-WY), said there were “various ways.” .
“And one of them is not only reducing the overall program, but simply reducing what we are spending for these different institutions,” she explained.
“I mean, we have to look [at] The way we do this is through specific committees. So we need to see it, it's… the school board of cuts. Well, I'm going to cut off the Federal Department of Education,” she said. “It can save us hundreds of millions of people.”
Lawmakers emphasized that she would “repeal the Federal Department of Education” entirely.
“Education is a state matter. We shouldn't have a federal department of education. We can block grants to the state, which is something we did before 1980 when the department of education existed. But since we were born in 1980, our test scores have been constantly slipping,” she said.
“When I came from some of the inner city schools, it's absolutely abomination. The lawmakers continued. “The Federal Department of Education has failed. Now, keep in mind that I came from a long line of teachers. I'm not saying we're going to abolish education. We're saying we're going to abolish the Federal Department of Education.”

When she graduated from high school in 1981, she added that she was a “previous product of the Federal Department of Education.”
“Our education was managed by the state and local school boards. They can say they do an incredible job. In Wyoming, we have a great supervisor of public guidance. “There are people who are dedicated to providing quality education to Wyoming students,” she said. “The Federal Department of Education is in the way.”
