Elon Musk said Friday he will rehire former Government Efficiency (DOGE) staff who resigned after aides' racist social media posts were revealed.
“He'll be brought back,” Musk said. Posted on xa social media platform purchased in 2022.
“False is human beings and forgive God.”
Doge staff member Marko Elez resigned on Thursday after the Wall Street Journal revealed several racist posts that appear to have been made from now-deleted accounts.
“Normalize India's hatred,” an account related to Erez was posted in September.
In another post, “You could not pay me to marry outside of my ethnicity,” the journal reported.
Musk's decision to rehire Erez came after Vice President Vance, whose wife Usha is the daughter of Indian immigrants.
“Here's my view: I clearly disagree with some of Erez's posts, but I don't think stupid social media activities should ruin a child's life,” Vance said in X. He spoke and responded to a poll in which Musk asked about 25-year-old Erez. You will need to be rehired.
“We shouldn't reward journalists who try to destroy people. Until now. So I say I'll bring him back, Vance went on. “If he's a bad guy or a terrible member of the team, That's why I'll fire him,” he added.
President Trump also supported Erez's rehiring when asked about the situation at a White House press conference.
Trump said that although he was unfamiliar with the controversy, Vance's support for Erez was enough to persuade him.
“I'm with the Vice President,” Trump said.
Erez's rehiring will undoubtedly bring further scrutiny to his position at the Treasury.
Erez is one of two Doge staff members approved by the Department of Justice to have access to a system run by the Department of Treasury's Finance Bureau, overseeing trillions of dollars in federal payments. .
Doge's presence in financial services has sparked vigilance between experts and democratic lawmakers. They fear that it can be used to stop legally mandated payments that are unfavourable to Trump and his administration.
Several federal employee unions have also sued the Treasury Department, claiming that the presence of Doge officials undermines a mass of sensitive information.
