Since taking office in January, judges across the country have taken action to block President Donald Trump's agenda. Vice President JD Vance sparked a social media frenzy on Sunday by affirming his support for Trump's executive authorities.
“If a judge tries to tell the general how to carry out a military operation, it's illegal,” Vance posted to X. .
Vance's comments followed a ruling that prevented government efficiency from accessing personal data. Juries in New Hampshire, Seattle and Maryland have blocked Trump's executive order to end birthright citizenship. New York Attorney General Laitt Tajames advised hospitals to ignore Trump's executive order to end the sex change process for minors.
Democrats quickly assaulted Vance on social media on Sunday, equating his comments with “tyranny” and “lawlessness.” Illinois Governor JV Pretzker is the 2028 presidential candidate, and Vance's comment said “The Trump administration is going to break the law.”

“JD Vance is yelling out the quiet part: the Trump administration is going to break the law. America is a state of law. The courts make sure we follow the law. VP controls the courts “I haven't done it, and the president cannot ignore it. The constitution is not beyond the law,” Pretzker said.

Former Transport Secretary and 2020 presidential candidate Pete Battigieg said the vice president would not decide what is legal.
“In America, decisions about what is legal and illegal are made in court, not by the Vice President,” Buttigieg said.

Liz Cheney, a former Republican senator who led the January 6 selection committee and campaigned for former vice president Kamala Harris, denounced Vance for tyranny.
David Hogg, the Democrat's first vice-chairman, Gen Z, said Vance's comments are slamming the hands of power by the administrative department.
“He's saying this to integrate the power of the president and normalize the grabs of power by the executives, to make him king,” Hogg said. “If the liberals have ever said this, then the conservatives (of course) will lose their god—heart.”
Connecticut Sen. Chris Murphy called Vance's comments “meat” in the current “constitutional crisis.”
“For those of us who believe we are in the midst of a constitutional crisis, this is that meat,” Murphy said in X. Executive Power. ”

Senator Adam Schiff, the first term senator who Trump is known as “Shifty Schiff” in his campaign trajectory, said Vance's comments “put us on a dangerous path to lawlessness.”
“JD, we both went to law school, but we are lawyers to know that ignoring court decisions we dislike will put us on a dangerous path to lawlessness. It's not necessary. We must make an oath to the Constitution, and that means that,” replied Sen. Adam Schiff, D-CA.
Some conservatives fought back against the onslaught of comments. Columnist Kurt Silicter jumps into the conversation, implying that Schiff is a bad lawyer.
Jed Reubenfeld, a Yale Law School professor, lawyer and constitutional scholar, said the judge agreed to Vance, saying that “constitutionally cannot interfere.”
“JD is right about this and his example is totally correct,” Rubenfeld said. “A judge cannot constitutionally interfere if he has only one power under the Constitution, as if he commands a military operation or exercises the discretion of the prosecutor.”

More X users who participated in the discussion said the comments from Vance and his supporters were ironic. Aj Delgado, a self-proclaimed “Maga original, but now proudly anti-Trump,” said Vance attacking has no principles.
“When a federal judge stopped forgiveness of Biden's student loans, were you not you? You have zero principles,” she wrote to X.
When the Supreme Court ruled against President Joe Biden's student loan forgiveness plan, he did not shake his commitment to freeing student debt.
Senator Elizabeth Warren, D-Mass. , in a February 2024 episode of “Pod Save America,” he credited Biden for finding an alternative way to reduce student loan debt.

“No matter what tools he has, he's honing and building some new tools through the Department of Education. We are now almost shy of 4 million people who have cancelled student loan obligations. Joe Biden is just continuing that,” Warren said.
