Palm Beach Off-duty PBSO corrections deputy killed in targeted attack

On Monday night, in South Florida, a deputy was shot and killed in what authorities described as a “targeted” attack.

The Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office said deputies responded to reports of the shooting in the 1400 block of Northwest Avenue D, Belgrade, at 7:32pm Monday.

On the scene, lawmakers discovered that the victim was a 39-year-old non-obligatory corrections officer.

“On arrival, they found an adult man suffering from a gunshot wound. He was immediately taken to a local hospital for treatment,” PBCSO said in a statement.

An informal corrections officer was shot dead in what authorities described as a “targeted” incident Monday night in Palm Beach County, Florida.

Limited details were available, but the sheriff's office said “the incident was targeted” when announcing the officer's death on social media.

The officer whose name had not yet been released was with the agency for three years.

A ritual escort was held late Monday night from St. Mary's Hospital in West Palm Beach to the county prosecutor's office.

The suspect has not been identified yet.

The Sheriff's Office said additional information will be made public once it becomes available.

“I'm distraught to say the least,” PBCSO said at the end of the statement.
