GOP lawmaker proposes renaming Greenland 'Red, White, and Blueland’

As President Trump is trying to acquire the island's territory, Sen. Buddy Carter (R-Ga.) introduced a new bill this week aimed at renaming Greenland as “red, white and blueland.” .

Laws called “”Red, White, and Blueland Act 2025“Interior Secretary Doug Burgum will oversee the implementation of the name change and directs official documentation and maps to refer to Greenland with updated names.

The law also allows President Trump to negotiate with Denmark to “purchase or acquire Greenland.”

“America is back and with the addition of red, white and blueland, it'll grow soon,” Carter said in a statement Tuesday after introducing the law.

“President Trump correctly identified the purchase of current Greenland as a national security priority. He proudly welcomed him to join a free country when he negotiated this monumental deal. “I'll do that,” he added.

Trump has repeatedly expressed interest in purchasing Greenland, a semi-automatic country currently under Danish control. He argued that it is necessary for the US to take over an island in the Arctic Circle to be national security.

In his inauguration speech, Trump called the United States a growing nation that expands its territory. He also called on the United States to seize the Panama Canal and meditated on Canada's annexation.

Greenland and Denmark resisted the driving forces for Trump to win the country.

“We don't want to be Danish,” Greenlandic Prime Minister Mute Egede previously said on Fox News. “We don't even want to be Americans. We want to be Greenlander.”

Danish Prime Minister Mette Fredericksen also argued that Greenland is not on sale and it is up to Greenland to decide on its independence.
