MSNBC Legal Analyst Cevallos Warns Against Calling Trump’s Orders Constitutional Crisis

MSNBC legal analyst Danny Kebaros said on MSNBC's “Morning Joe” that President Donald Trump's actions did not cause a “constitutional crisis.”

“I think we need to be aware of the term constitutional crisis, because, as I define it, it is a situation in which the constitution has no answers and there is an imminent conflict. Severos states of the executive order. I don't think the gusts of wind, the confusion will bring us into crisis yet. It's exciting and challenging for the courts. As you said, it's too crowded to deal with these orders , that can lead to serious problems.”

He continued. “The moment a crisis occurred, there was a court order and the president or administration refused to follow it, we already talked about it. We've done it in that situation. In the first half of that, we issued a massive number of executive orders. And not only do they know that the courts can handle it, they already did this in 2017. They felt like they didn't even have a spell to check them out. And they had the court pruned them like proverb bonsai trees, or just pulled them out and returned to the drawing. It's probably not the most efficient way to do it. It's mixed It's oxymy. Like you said, that's a problem.”

Severos added: “But for me, the constitutional crisis is the moment when the court issues an order and the administration resists. The last notable event was when Nixon refused to comply with the summons issued by the Supreme Court. You could say that. He ultimately surrendered. But history is full of examples of these nearby crises. The question is, what will we do in the future?”
