First on FOX: Sen. Ted Cruz of R-Texas is launching a new push to target illegal immigrants fleeing law enforcement.
Cruz is reintroducing the Senate version of the Agent Raul Gonzalez Officer Safety Act.
The bill is named after Border Patrol agent Raul Gonzalez, who was killed while pursuing illegal immigration in a 2022 vehicle crash in Texas. The bill would not have given up on a felony punishable to Border Patrol agents for up to two years in prison.

If a border patrol agent is injured while pursuing a vehicle for an illegal immigrant, the offender can receive a sentence ranging from a minimum of five years to a maximum of 20 years in prison. If an agent takes his life during a pursuit, the bill provides a minimum sentence of 10 years in prison, covering a potential life sentence. Additionally, each of these offences can be fined up to $250,000.
Additionally, the Department of Justice requires Congress to report how often they are prosecuting illegal foreigners to put Border Patrol agents at risk.
“The law honors the sacrifice of agent Raul Gonzalez Jr., who lost his life after chasing an individual who avoided capture,” Cruz said in a statement in Fox News Digital.

“It sends a clear message that if you risk America's lives, you will face serious consequences,” he said. “This bill is an important step in protecting our community and ensuring that criminals are unable to exploit past mistakes.”
The bill was reintroduced in the House by Rep. Juan Ciscomani of R-Ariz.
This is one of many bills that have been introduced or reintroduced in Congress. This is because there is both chamber and new mood GOP control in Washington, and it appears to be more embracing the hard consequences for illegal immigration, which has led the Trump administration to launch a massive one. Congress passed the Lakeken Riley Act in January, requiring federal detention of illegal immigrants accused of theft-related crimes. President Donald Trump will sign the bill in late January.

Meanwhile, Cruz reintroduced the “Joselyn's Justice” law. This would require illegal immigrants to fill all ice detention levels before they are released inside. It is named after Joselyn Nungarei, who was allegedly murdered by two illegal immigrants.
