Education Secretary candidate Linda McMahon was the next cabinet pick that President Trump faced with lawmakers, and first said he “gets out of work.”
McMahon asks the senators questions as Trump is scheduled for 10am on Thursday at 10am on EST. We ask Congress to reduce federal agencies and end it.
She may also face a lack of educational experience, prolonged lawsuits from her days of professional wrestling, and questions about how to implement executive orders on gender issues and school choices, but McMahon's Hearings could be dominated by the future of the education sector.
Republicans have not challenged McMahon and have given her a clear path to confirmation so far, but other opponents from Democrats and Old World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) executives have said before the hearing revealed the line of attack.
“The nomination of McMahon is truly a concern for us and parents across the country, because what we hear from parents is that they want a strong public education system for our children. Because, fully funded, Linda McMahon has no track record of being an advocate for education,” said Ailen Arreaza, Executive Director of ParentStogether.
Senators Andy Kim (DN.J.), and Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.), who are members of the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee (Help) Committee, wrote to McMahon on Tuesday. I sent it. I hope they prepare to respond on Thursday, including ending support for the department, student loan system and McMahon Project 2025.
The senator raised concerns that McMahon has little education experience except for multiple years on the board of trustees at Sacred Heart University in Connecticut, except for a year on the Connecticut state board of education.
“You have a minimal track record on educational issues and have little experience with education policy,” the Democrats wrote.
“This lack of public records means that Americans are not given the opportunity to evaluate your views on topics relating to the Secretary of Education's core responsibility,” they added.
McMahon, who headed the small business administration in Trump's first administration, was taken over by the presidential election in November. This is a surprising choice for people in the education field.
Trump told reporters about McMahon being shut down the Department of Education and how he told her to “get out of work” if confirmed.
To eliminate the division completely requires a congressional act, and Republicans in both the House and Senate have introduced bills to do so, but secure 60 votes to defeat the Senate filibuster It is difficult to imagine the measures.
But Trump said he is considering enforcement actions targeting agencies, and media reports will either cut programs that he is not written in the law or move to other federal departments. He says he is aiming to do this.
When McMahon was appointed, Sen. Bill Cassidy (R-La.), chairman of the Help Committee, agreed to President Trump's statement that “someone needs to focus on parental choices in children's education,” agreed President Trump's statement, “we need someone to focus on parental choices in children's education.” I did,” he said.
“My experience running a small business manager Linda McMahon clearly helps me run another agency. Cassidy, who runs Thursday's hearing, said:
The handling of Help Chair's lawsuits will be closely monitored by the President and his allies. Cassidy, who voted to convict Trump after the 2021 bullet each, was re-electioned in 2026, and he has already attracted one Pro Magazine primary challenger.
Oka reached into Cassidy's office for further comment.
McMahon has been flying mostly under the radar so far. In particular, compared to more controversial candidates for Trump, including Health and Human Services Pick Robert F. Kennedy Jr., National Intelligence Director Robert F. Kennedy Jr., and National Intelligence Director General, as confirmed Wednesday. Most have been flying so far.
However, at least some of her past could be filed after the lawsuit was filed against her and her husband Vince McMahon while leading WWE in October. The lawsuit alleges that McMahon knew about the ringside announcer sexually abusing the Ring Boys, but did nothing to stop him.
Her lawyer said the lawsuit was “filled with eerie lies, exaggerations and misrepresentations about Linda McMahon.”
The National Education Association President and the American Federation of Teachers are holding a rally in DC ahead of the McMahon hearing with democratic lawmakers, parents and students, with the message “protecting students and public schools.”
Keri Rodriguez, president of the National Parent Coalition, said her group will be on the Capitol with parents talking to lawmakers this week, and all 100 senators say if the Department of Education is repealed. I sent a fact sheet detailing what that means.
“We'll hear a lot about what they want to cut, what they want to destroy, what they want to dismantle. We'd love to hear a positive vision of what public education in America looks like.” Rodriguez said. “I haven't heard much of it. I've heard that I've heard a lot of complaints and whining about things I don't like, but what do they do for American families? I haven't heard of any viable alternatives in terms of whether they are trying to do so.”
“I want such a substance and I hope that such deep questions are being asked by Linda McMahon,” she added.
McMahon may also be asked to answer the decision the Department of Education made under deputy Dennis Carter.
At the end of January, dozens of agency officials were placed on administrative leave after Trump's executive order banning federal diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI).
The union representing its employees believes its staff has been targeted after participating in the 2019 DEI training.
And last week, Congressional Democrats appeared at the Department of Education after a request for an emergency meeting with the deputy secretary to discuss Trump's sweeping federal cuts. The lawmakers were trapped from the building when they arrived and were not inside.
“They are preventing members of Congress from entering the Department of Education! Can Elon enter, not people? Rep. Maxwell Frost (D-fla.) is a technology leading the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE). He said he is referring to billionaire Elon Musk.
This week, Doge announced a multi-million dollar deal in a contract that ended by the Department of Education.
“We'll meet the Senate tomorrow with parents all over the country and ask them to ask them difficult questions, so we know where they stand on these issues. The administration has these issues. I'm enduring it,” Rodriguez said.
