NYC man killed elderly roommate over food feud and dumped his dismembered body in suitcase into East River, police say

Police in New York arrested the man for the horrifying discovery of the mutilated body of an elderly man in the East River.

The body was found in a suitcase near Governors Island on February 6th at about 5:30pm by the NYPD Harbor Unit. Police reportedly found the torso of a man who was declared dead by EMS. According to Go to WPVI-TV.

“It's just a shocker that you can have someone stay in your home, and they just take your life as if it were nothing.”

On Wednesday, police said they had it. It's decided The victim is 65-year-old Edwin Echevaria of Manhattan.

They later identified 23-year-old Christian Millet as a suspect in the murder of a man. They said Millet was Ekebaria's roommate at his residence on 60 Columbia Street. Police also indicated they were caught up in a food controversy before they discovered the man's body.

police He told WABC-TV They believe that Millet knocked down Ekebaria and stomped his head during the conflict. He is said to have stabbed the man about 12 times afterwards before tearing him apart in the tub.

Authorities said Millett issued a statement linking himself to a crime.

Neighbors in the apartment building said older victims sometimes refer to their younger roommates as grandchildren.

“It's just shocking that someone can stay at your house, and they just blatantly take away your life as if it were nothing,” one of the neighbors said. I did. “And you're sitting there, oh, I don't know where he is.”

The victim's relative said he recently retired from being a postal worker.

Police said Ekebaria's body was put in a sleeping bag and then packed into a suitcase before being thrown into the river.

Millet was arrested and charged with second-degree murder.
