(Reuters) – Tiktok returned to Apple and Google's US app store on Thursday after President Donald Trump delayed the ban until April 5th and assured him that he would not be fined to distribute or maintain Chinese apps I did.
A popular short video app used by 170 million American users began restoring services a few weeks after the app went dark, as Trump assured him that access would be revived before taking office .
Tiktok did not immediately respond to Reuters' request for comment.
Trump's executive order last month delayed the 75-day ban on Tiktok, allowing Chinese ordinance-owned companies to temporarily continue their operations in the US.
Companies that run mobile application stores or digital marketplaces where users can view, download and update apps will not face penalties for uploading and running Tiktok apps, the directive states.
Tiktok was the second-largest downloaded app in the United States in 2024, with over 52 million downloads, according to the Market Intelligence Firm Sensor Tower.
Approximately 52% of Tiktok's total downloads come from the Apple App Store, while 48% came from Google Play in the US last year, Sensor Tower said.
