Spicer: China must ‘significantly deescalate’ before US can consider reducing military budget

Former White House press secretary Sean Spicer argued that China must “deinvestigated” before the US considers reducing its military budget.

Spicer joined News Nation's “Hill” on Thursday, while host Blake Berman asked him about President Trump's recent remarks, where he was left nervous with China's national president Xi Jinping and Russian President Vladimir Putin. He said he wanted to ease it and ultimately cut US military budgets.

Spicer said he doesn't think de-escalation will occur in his life or in his grandson's life.

“We are very clear that China is hoping for war by 2027,” he said.

Spicer, who served under the first Trump administration, said it was “great” that Trump has “ambitious goals” to achieve peace with the nation's enemies.

“Think about Ronald Reagan. The idea was to figure out how to defeat nuclear weapons in all countries. It's good to say that we want to have peace rather than talking about war. That's it,” Spicer said.

“I would rather talk about it than go to war,” he added. “But let's face it, I don't think it's going to happen anytime soon.”

It was a busy few weeks as Trump almost completed his first month.

Just this week he highlighted his international ambitions by talking to Putin following a prisoner swap. The two presidents have spoken about taking steps to end the nearly three-year war in Ukraine, but what will happen at Trump's intimacy with Putin and our negotiation table with allies I have concerns about this.

Speaking from the White House on Thursday, Trump suggested that the US could cut its defense budget in half at some point in the future.

“At some point, once things settle, I'm going to meet China, especially with two Russias. Trump said from his oval office.

“When I straighten it, one of the first meetings I hope for is Chinese President XI and Russian President Putin. Let's cut our military budget in half,” he said. I said that. “And we can do that and I think we can do that.”
