Authorities believe three unidentified men posed as federal officials tried to seize sensitive information from San Francisco City Hall before they fled Friday afternoon.
Around noon, the suspect approached city hall wearing the government's efficiency department. According to the San Francisco Sheriff's Office.
The Sheriff's Office demanded that the man enter several offices and local employees take over digital information related to “wasteful government spending and suspected fraud.”
City Hall workers rejected their request and called the Sheriff's Office.
The lawmaker responded within minutes, but the man fled the building.
“We don't think they're the representatives of Doge,” said Tara Moriarty, the sheriff's communications director. “As soon as the sheriff was called, they left the building. They knew the jig was up.”
The sheriff said they are considering surveillance footage as part of the investigation.

A federal judge stopped the mask's team from doing so last week, and the judge said Orders expanded on friday.
Musk's Doge group was tasked with eliminating unnecessary government spending by the Trump administration.
Musk also temporarily blocked access to student loans and financial aid information from the Department of Education earlier this week.
