Jockey Michael O’Sullivan dies aged 24 after fall in race at Thurles | Horse racing

Irish jockey Michael O'Sullivan passed away after being injured in a fall at Thurles on February 6th, which was announced by the Irish Horse Racing Regulation Board (IHRB).

    O'Sullivan began his riding career on the point-to-point circuit, crowning the Under-21 Rider champion in 2019. A 47-length victory in Hunter Chase, and he became a pro in September 2022.

    O'Sullivan enjoyed a one-day double at the 2023 Cheltenham Festival, winning the Boodles Juvan Handicap Hurdle at Marine National and Gordon Elliott's Jazzy Matie. He concluded his breakthrough campaign by winning the championship conditional in Ireland with 32 winners.

    Overall, O'Sullivan got 90 winners in Ireland and five winners in the UK and five under the rules.
